Module Introduction After the DSP Chip has been developed completely, it functions as the special functions, such as monitoring the DSP in real time and adjusting DSP software dynamically. However, they all need to access the internal sources of the DSP. The traditional method is to share the RAM with the Host, and the Chips, such as External Extended RAM, Trigger and Latch, are required. Obviously, those methods increase the additional design and cost. Because of those reasons, the TI Company has added the HPI in the C5000 series and C6000 series DSPs. HPI (Host Port Interface) is a fast channel, which is used to communicate between the Host and the DSP Chip. With the help of the HPI, the Host can access all sources in the DSP, but it cannot influence the operation of the DSP. In the case of the communication, the communication between the Host and the HPI is accessing the HPI Register. The HPI Register includes HPIC, HPIA and HPID. Specifically, the HPIC is the Control Register, HPIA is the Address Register and the HPID is the Data Register. A complete HPI communication process can be separated into three steps: 1.HPIC Write: Set HPI Control Parameters. 2.HPIA Write: Tell HPI about the DSP Internal Address to be accessed. 3.HPID Read: It is used to realize the access of the DSP Internal Sources. In fact, if it is unnecessary to change the HPI Control Parameters, it only needs to set the HPIC for the first time. As to setting the HPIA, the Autoincrement Mode or Fixed Address Mode can be set according to the requirements. In the Autoincrement Mode, the HPID can be accessed continuously, and the address will be added “1” automatically every time. Application Field It is mainly used in the TMS320C5000 Series and TMS320C6000 Series DSP Chips, which are manufactured by TI Company. 【DOWNLOAD】
